Heidi’s “Why” – How Boudoir Changed Her Life
Hi Ladies.
In 2017, my world completely shifted.
The relationship that I once believed was my forever came to an end after 20 years.
I suddenly found myself as a single mother of three, navigating a new reality where survival was my only priority. My days were filled with working three jobs, managing my kids’ schedules—**swimming, baseball, karate—**and doing everything I could to keep life moving forward. But somewhere in the chaos, I disappeared.
Everything became about the kids. Their needs, their schedules, their well-being. And while I would do it all again in a heartbeat, I couldn’t ignore the fact that I had completely forgotten about myself.
Coming out of an emotionally abusive relationship—one that had walked a dangerously thin line toward physical abuse—I knew I had a lot of healing to do.
And like many women after a breakup, I felt the urge to change.
- I was already in the gym, working on my physical health.
- I changed my hair, my wardrobe—anything to feel like a woman again, not just a mom.
- And that’s when I first started looking into boudoir.
The Excuses That Almost Held Me Back
At first, I hesitated.
- “I’m not ready yet.”
- “I need to lose weight first.”
- “Maybe after I feel more confident.”
Excuse after excuse. Sound familiar?
Then, a close friend of mine booked a boudoir session as a birthday gift for her husband. Watching her go through the experience made me realize something life-changing:
I didn’t have to wait until I was “perfect.” I didn’t have to lose weight. I didn’t have to wait until I felt confident.
Because the truth? Boudoir is what gives you confidence.
The Moment That Changed Everything
Walking into my first boudoir session, I was nervous as hell.
But then the session started. Chris showed me the back of the camera after our first few shots, and my entire world shifted.
“That’s me?!”
I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t recognize the woman staring back at me—radiant, strong, powerful.
And when I saw my final images? I teared up.
This wasn’t just a photoshoot. This was healing. This was me finally seeing the beauty that had been there all along.
Since that day, I’ve done three more boudoir sessions. And with every single one, I find more of myself.
But my favorite images? They’re still from that very first session.
Because that was the day I stopped waiting to feel beautiful.
That was the day I started believing I already was.
Chris’ Why – Why I’m Not Afraid To Shoot Boudoir
Hello Everyone.
On September 15, 2019 I was diagnosed with cancer. 3 weeks later I was undergoing chemotherapy and getting radiation every day for 7 weeks.
Talk about a life changing event. Luckily I am cancer free and fine but going through an experience like that changes you. I know it is a cliche but you really do start looking at life differently and realizing that life IS to short and everyone needs to look at things differently.
I have been an artist all my life but due to various life events and career paths I never pursued it much beyond high school. That all changed after my treatment.
It really started as a joking conversation at a get together about photography and specifically boudoir. A friends wife mentioned she wanted to do another boudoir session and I half jokingly made a comment about having a camera and being willing to do a shoot for free for her.
I had already been thinking about how I could start shooting boudoir. I had already taken pictures of Heidi in a couple sessions and I had even spoken with a couple of photographers asking them if I could shadow them and learn. This opportunity was the push I needed. I said half jokingly earlier because 1/2 the joke was I never thought my friends wife would say yes and the other half was me putting myself out there because again life is too short.
The rest is history as they say. I had an amazing shoot with my friends wife and that launched my official journey into boudoir.
As for an actual answer for why boudoir…boudoir also allows me to continue being an artist like I have been my entire life. I am simply changing the medium from pencil and digital art to photography. I enjoy showing women that they are beautiful, in a world where the average woman doesn’t truly feel or realize their beauty or see it, due to society, abusive relationships in the past or present, and their own lack of confidence.
Nothing makes me happier than watching someone see their images for the first time at their reveal and watching their face go from nervous energy to pure joy and happiness. Then they relive that moment again when they receive their album a few weeks later and they have a physical reminder of their amazing session and a constant reminder that they are beautiful and confident.
Who wouldn’t want to keep making that happen for as many women as they could?
