What you wear is part of the story you’re telling. This guide is here to help you plan it, piece by piece, so you walk in already knowing what to bring.

We’ll start with the classics, then get into looks you might not have thought of yet. The last section covers the finishing details: stockings, heels, jackets, props. You’ll also find our shopping guide for where to find the pieces we mention.

LINGERIE ESSENTIALS

The foundation for almost every look. A well-fitted piece does more of the work than people expect, it shapes how you move, how you feel in front of the camera, and how the whole session comes together. Start here if you’re not sure where else to begin.

A black bra and panty set, a lace teddy, a strappy bodysuit, these photograph beautifully and never go out of style.

Bring more than one option if you can. That gives us room to try different combinations and find what actually feels like you once we’re shooting. Mix up texture and color. If you’re drawn to something dramatic and if you’re drawn to something soft, bring both. We’ll figure out what works together once you’re here.

Most people assume the more revealing the better, thongs included, but cheeky underwear actually adds shape and looks great on almost everyone. When you’re not sure what to bring, cheeky is a safe first choice. Bodysuits are a bit of an exception to this, but as a general rule, it holds up.

There are hundreds of styles of 2-piece lingerie out there, from matching sets to mismatched pairs that still work together, so this is a good place to have some fun with your wardrobe. If most of your other pieces lean black or neutral, a 2-piece set is one of the easiest ways to bring in color and variety.

Don’t feel like everything has to match perfectly. A bralette in one tone with bottoms in another can look just as intentional as a matched set, sometimes more. If you already know you gravitate toward a certain color, bring it. If you don’t, this is a good excuse to try something you wouldn’t normally reach for.

This is one of my favorite kinds of lingerie to photograph. Bodysuits and teddies are the most underrated lingerie there is. They’re flattering on every body type, and they come in more styles and coverage options than most people realize. I have so many favorite examples I couldn’t fit them all on one page.

Sheer fabric plays in the space between covered and not, and that tension makes for some of the most striking images in a session. It’s not about showing everything or hiding everything, it’s the in-between that photographs so well.

Everything old is new again. High waisted bottoms were big in the 70s, and they still hold up today. They add structure through the stomach and waist, and paired with cheeky bottoms, they create shape that draws the eye exactly where you want it.

Whatever happened to corsets? You can’t breathe in them, that part’s true, but they photograph beautifully. They’re flattering on every body type and bring a subtle roleplay quality that adds real dimension to the mood of a shoot.

Congratulations on the wedding. This is a gift for someone else, so the rules shift a little. Think about what he loves seeing you in, what feels special enough to save for a wedding day, and what you’ll actually want to look back on years from now. White, ivory, and soft lace are classic here, but this is still your call to make.

A lot of people assume bridal boudoir has to center on the veil, but that’s not the only way to get the look. There are plenty of white pieces that read as bridal without any of the cheesiness.

Some of the most striking images in a session come from outfits that break the mold entirely. Distressed jeans, an oversized sweater, a corset, a leather jacket, your partner’s button-down, even a sleek cocktail dress, all of these have a place here.

A simple tee can be just as striking as lace when you’re comfortable in it. Bring the pieces that actually feel like you, whatever that looks like for you. We’ll work with whatever you bring and help you find the shot in it.

This is one of my favorites. There’s something about a button up shirt that feels like waking up late on a Sunday and tossing on a favorite shirt of your partner’s. It can be tame, buttoned all the way up, or it can be spicy, pulled open, halfway off, or left just barely covering you.

Jeans are another everyday piece that can turn sexy fast, unzipped in a shot, or worn with nothing else on top. They give you that girl-next-door feel, and they’re genuinely fun to shoot.

A sports jersey is an easy way to bring in something personal. Your favorite team, your partner’s jersey, or one that just means something to you, any of these work. It gives the shoot a bold, sporty edge that most boudoir sessions don’t have.

This is another casual option to start a shoot with. There are a million poses you can do in just a t-shirt. A shot of you taking it off makes a natural transition into your next outfit on the following page of your album.

Some people love lacy lingerie, some love casual looks, and some love both. A crop top can do a lot for your shape and photographs well. Play around with loose fits, tight fits, ones cut out in the back, and different lengths. You’ll likely find something you really like.

I love starting a session in a cocktail dress. It tells the story of the first part of a date. When the page turns and you’re unzipping it or sliding it off, that’s a beautiful suggestion of what’s coming next.

It’s also a great way to ease into the shoot if lingerie still feels intimidating to start with.

Not every image needs an outfit at all. These are the pieces and moments built around subtlety, a robe, a sheet, skin on its own, the kind of shots that rely on restraint rather than fabric to do the work.

It can be hard to style an outfit that isn’t just a bra and panties. A robe gives you that lounging-around-the-house feel. Worn open at the shoulders, or with nothing underneath, it leaves more to the imagination without needing anything else.

Stockings, heels, a garter belt, these all work toward the same polished look. I try to do at least one outfit every session that’s dressed to the nines.

Don’t feel locked into standard black. A small pattern or a design over the thigh can add something extra to the shot.

One thing to watch: size appropriately. A set that’s too small will squeeze your thighs and struggle to stay where it’s supposed to

Nine out of ten women have no idea how to put these on, and honestly, that’s fine. It’s a lot like watching a groomsman try to figure out his tie before the ceremony. We’ll help you get it right.

Paired with stockings and heels, a garter belt can add a few inches to your legs and make them look longer.

This is what we most often start sessions with. It’s playful and suggestive at the same time, and it gives your hands something to do. There’s something about pulling clothes in different directions that photographs beautifully.

Nothing beats ending a session with a trip to the shower. A wet t-shirt, tank top, or crop top leaves a little to the imagination and gives us a strong way to close out the shoot.

This is a favorite for a lot of women because it’s the ultimate “leave a little to the imagination” option. You can appear completely nude while actually revealing less than most typical lingerie shots. The white sheet is usually the final “outfit” of the session, and it’s often the image that closes out the album.

There’s something real about moving without anything on, no fabric to think about, no outfit to adjust between shots. Just you, exactly as you are.

About 75% of our clients get at least one nude shot during their session, and those images usually end up being their favorites in the gallery.

The right accessory can finish a look on its own. Heels, jewelry, a prop with real meaning behind it, these are the small additions that pull an outfit together and give a shot its final layer of personality.

A classic. Heels make your legs look longer, tone your calves, help your posture, and add an extra layer of sex appeal to almost any outfit. Even if casual is more your thing, I still recommend bringing at least one pair.

If you don’t have a pair you love, we keep a small collection of black heels with the signature red sole in almost every size, and you’re welcome to borrow a pair for your session.

Boots bring a different energy than heels, a little edgier, a little more playful. They work with a dress or with lingerie. A great pose to try: pulling them on, like you’re getting ready to head out for the night. They also work simply as an edgy accessory throughout the shoot.

Glasses are a fun little accessory. There’s something about the nerdy-sexy combination that makes for a great character to step into for a few photos.

I believe you are the most important thing in these photos, and too many accessories can take away from that. That’s why you won’t see many images from me with clunky or overpowering pieces. That said, the right piece can really bring an outfit together. Feel free to bring necklaces, bracelets, or body jewelry you think would add something to your images.

The garter is a natural match with bridal lingerie. Your partner will be sliding it off with their teeth on the wedding day, so this is a playful hint at what’s coming.

Leather straps bring an edge that’s hard to get from fabric alone. Worn over lingerie or on their own, they add structure and a bit of attitude to a look. If you want something a little different from your other outfits, this is a good one to try.

Not all boudoir is soft and pastel. Sometimes you want something with more edge. Feel free to bring cuffs, a riding crop, a collar, a blindfold, your favorite toy, or anything else you’d like to work into your session.
