A little preparation goes a long way toward feeling comfortable rather than caught off guard on the day itself. Here’s what tends to matter most.
Talk to your photographer beforehand.
Feeling comfortable with the person behind the camera matters more than most people expect going in. A conversation before your session, whether that’s your Discovery Call or a follow-up chat, gives you a real sense of how the day will feel. If a conversation eases your nerves rather than adding to them, that’s usually a good sign.
Plan your outfits ahead of time.
Go through what you already own first. A lot of what makes you feel confident is probably already in your closet. If you’re buying something new, give yourself time to actually try it on rather than deciding at the last minute. Bring more than you think you’ll need, since something that looks right in the mirror doesn’t always translate the same way on camera, and having options gives you room to adjust once you’re here. Keep the day itself open.
Try not to stack errands or commitments around your session. Arriving without rushing changes how the whole day feels.
A rough visual reference can help, but it’s optional.
If you like gathering images that capture a mood or feeling you’re drawn to, that’s genuinely useful. We build a private mood board with you ahead of your session using Milanote, so you never have to search anything or worry about what you save being public. It’s not required. We’ll guide you either way. Read ( How We Use a Mood Board to Personalize Your Boudoir Session)
Cycle timing is worth a glance at your calendar.
Some women feel more at ease scheduling outside their cycle. Not everyone needs to think about this, comfort varies, but it’s worth a quick look when you’re picking a date.
Small grooming details add up.
Clean, well-kept nails show up in more photos than people expect. If you’re changing your hair color or getting a fresh cut, give it about a week to settle before your session.
A few things the day before help more than you’d think.
Loose, comfortable clothing in the hours beforehand keeps skin smooth and even instead of marked by tight straps or waistbands. Good sleep and real hydration in the days leading up matter more than most people give them credit for. And if you’re managing sun exposure or a tan, even coverage a few weeks out beats a last-minute decision.
When you’re ready
None of this needs to be perfect. These are just the things that quietly make the day easier. If you have questions about any of it, that’s exactly what a Discovery Call is for.
